Opinions about films (classic to contemporary) categories such as cinematography, special effects, intellectual/high quality storyline.. overall entertainment value.
What film do you suggest is best in which of the above categories.
Serious comments only!!
I personally love watching movies and hopefully will pursue a career in film making in the future. There are plenty of movies that come to mind when I'm asked what are the best movies ever. A few that come to mind are: Shaw-shank Redemption, Titanic, and The Godfather. Examples of more modern movies would be: Hunger Games, The Avengers and one that I haven't seen yet but have only heard amazing things about would be The Lego Movie. I personally feel that the best movie ever was the 4th Star Wars movie. This isn't because it's my favorite, I actually don't love the Star Wars series. For the time it was made it was really well put together. It also had an amazing story-line, or at least a story-line good enough to make 5 more movies. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteGran Torino.. ? Great plot line.. Very little action but beautifully scripted..
ReplyDeleteI have to say though, although this may be off topic, the cinematography is Breaking Bad series, is very unique. The transitions are at times hysterical or even perverse (cruel) and the camera angels are very unique.. Some coming from the interior of a microwave, the ground of the sandy dessert, or ... the underwater shots from at the bottom of the pool with the teddy bear's (we find this out later) eyeball floating.. So much symbolism too. THe eyeball turns out to be a symbol of Cranston's loss of sanity and control and as a pawn in his life. And every episode is a flash forward, keeping us curious as to how the episode ends up. Very cool
ReplyDeleteCould this may have been one of the reasons it was so successful? Maybe the cinematography was a key feature in the development or the presentation of the story line. When I edit videos (because that's what I want to do with my life) I tend to notice the difference between having no transition and adding a transition. The transition tends to be more appealing. Oddly and slightly random, if the video or transitions are painful on the eyes viewers wouldn't want to watch it.
DeleteYou also have to consider the intellectual capabilities of your intended viewers.. is it clear to them that a scene had just changed??
DeleteI personally have a standard to what I think is a good movie and a good story. I have seen a couple of movies that fall under those standards. The movie has to have likable characters and a simple yet complex plot and some plot twists but not to many. There needs to be character development and you need to understand the characters and how they think through that development. A movie I'd say that fallows all those standards is a recent movie that came out not to long ago titled "The Prisoners" the characters are well developed and well played out and the plot twist and putting together the puzzle pieces of the story keeps you guessing and makes you want to watch it more.
ReplyDeleteOne of the worst movies every made would have to either be The last Air Bender or The Happening. They are both just terrible movies from The Last Air Bender pronouncing the main character Ang's name wrong to the horrible acting and the air that makes you commit suicide any way possible from jumping of a building to running yourself over with a lawnmower, the plot is stupid and not surprisingly both these movies are made by the same directer M Night Shyamalan, And yet Shyamalan makes another great movie "After Earth which was so boring and had no plot twist or climax at all so maybe it is Shyamalan's movies but he has had a Hit with "The Sixth Sense" and that's it.
ReplyDeleteI love action movies. Divergent was a great movie but i just wish I would have read the book before I saw the movie. One of my all time favorite movies is shutter Island. It really just plays with your mind the entire time and you don't know what's real and what's not. By the end of that movie you're just like what so was that all pretend? and i'm a sucker for those kinds of movies.
